Pomeranians are proud and energetic little dogs. This dog breed is actually very intelligent, eager to learn and very loyal to its handler and family. Pomeranians are wonderful companions and is actually a total show dog. The breed’s docile temper and affectionate nature becomes endearing to a lot of people. They are highly alert, inquisitive and very active which makes them one of the most independent of the toy breeds. Their liveliness and spirit make it well-liked by persons who do not usually care for toy dogs. If they are properly introduced they usually get along with other dogs and household animals without any problems.
Pomeranians make good little watch dogs. They are also very easy to train because they are highly attentive. This dog breed is also good in learning tricks. But be careful though because, Pomeranians need to see their owners as boss or they will become very demanding. If you allow this dog to tell you when and where to do things, you will definitely encounter certain hassles before you even start to realize it.
In terms of health concerns, Pomeranians are prone to knee-cap injury, slipped stifle, heart problems, eye infections, skin irritations and tooth decay. It is recommended that they are fed dry dog food or crunchy milk bones daily to help keep the teeth and gums in good condition. Moreover, the Pomeranian’s very long, double coat should be brushed frequently. If you work from the head, parting the coat and brushing it forward, it will fall neatly back in place, although time-consuming, is relatively easy.
Finally, Pomeranians are ideal for apartments because they are small and very easy to train. A good daily walk is the ideal exercise for this dog breed because it lets them become more agile and active. A Pomeranian’s life expectancy usually lasts until 15 years.
