Months ago we launched a special issue of our newsletter dedicated to Elly. After her successful knee surgery, she had gone on trial in a new home. In Dog Rescue Newcastle’s most recent update, we were informed that Elly is happily settled in her new home and that her new Mum and Dad are committed to helping her overcome her shyness. Here’s one of the pics we received showing that Elly is so happy and relaxed in her new home. She is finally free of the knee pain which must have hurt her all her life and is now running around the garden!

We received an email from little Elly’s Mum and Dad in September and now that the adoption is final, we are more than happy to share it with you:

Hello,

On Sunday, my partner Damien and I took custody of Elly from Dog Rescue Newcastle. She is a tiny little black and white scaredy dog who has obviously been abused in some way for her to be so terrified of people.

It’s early days yet (we are still in the trial period but we’re confident that all will be fine!) but she is already starting to respond to us in tiny ways and seems happy enough with her new home so far.

I am writing to thank you for your support of Dog Rescue Newcastle and the amazing work they do. Elly had to have surgery on her knee before she could be adopted out and your generous support paid for it, for which we are extremely grateful.

So thank you! And Elly thanks you to. She wouldn’t be here at all if it wasn’t for organisations like Dog Rescue Newcastle and like yours who believe it is important to support such wonderful missions.

Thank you again.

Regards
Liz and Damien
Newcastle

We would like to thank everyone for supporting our advocacy and for helping Elly.

Dog Rescue Newcastle has more than 50 dogs and a dozen cats in foster care. The organisation’s vet bills are thousands of dollars each month. The fund was used to support the facility that re-homes orphan cats, kittens, dogs and puppies.

On the 19th of this month, Pets Haven will hold its first ever Country and Western night fundraiser at Hardimans Hotel in Kensington and Petitude, once again, will take part by sponsoring a cat tree that will be used for the event’s silent auction. Proceeds will go to the shelter to buy an air condition dog trailer to help rescue the animals as sometimes animals are rescued from Mildura pound and in summer it is a long hot drive for the animals.

Petitude Online Pet Store, known as an active supporter of Australian pet organisations and local programs that promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, always takes pride and pleasure in assisting fundraising events that aim to help our less fortunate four-legged companion pets.

In fact, we have an ongoing partnership with a similar organisation dedicated to the rescue of abandoned, neglected or abused companion animals. Under this partnership, we are running the Shop for a Cause Campaign and donates 10% of sales generated through the SHOP4ACAUSE coupon code to Dog Rescue Newcastle. We also feature pets for adoption in our newsletters and so far we have helped re-home 6 out of 8 featured Adopt Me pets.

Petitude also publishes pet adoption articles and pet care guides on this blog to help disseminate information on proper pet care and promote pet adoption and responsible pet ownership among our customers, newsletter subscribers, blog readers and website visitors.

When Dog Rescue Newcastle rescued Lulu a couple of weeks ago, she was emaciated, filthy, and very frightened. When the vet examined her, it was discovered that she has untreated infections in both her ears which left her with very little hearing. The infections have been untreated for so long that the swelling inside her ears has caused both her ear canals to become completely closed.

Unfortunately, Lulu has been suffering from this painful condition for most of her life. She is now on pain medication but must wear an Elizabethan collar at all times to prevent her from scratching her itchy and painful ears. All of her pain and suffering could have been easily prevented if Lulu had been taken to a vet and given antibiotics when the infection started.

Now, Lulu needs ear ablation surgery on both ears to remove all the old, infected cartilage and scar tissue so the inner ear can drain and have a chance to heal, thus, allowing her to have normal hearing again. The operation is scheduled for the 18th of October but the veterinary treatment and medication has cost $600 so far. Her delicate ear surgery will cost $1,600 to $1,800 more.

We at Petitude, together with Dog Rescue Newcastle, would like to ask for your help in restoring Lulu’s hearing again by making any sort of donation. There are four ways which you can help:

Go to Dog Rescue Newcastle’s official website. Click on the “Donate” button to donate securely using your credit card, bank account, or Paypal account; or

Make a direct deposit to Newcastle Permanent bank account BSB: 650 000, Account: 986245302. Please include “Lulu” as a reference; and/or

Shop at Petitude online pet store and enter coupon code 4LULU on the last page of the check out process and we will donate 10% of whatever you spend to our Lulu appeal. This code is valid store-wide until end of October only, so please do your shopping today!

Please spread the word. Retweet, bookmark and share this post to both your Facebook and non-FB friends.

Thank you for helping us help Elly. Now let’s do the best we can to help our little Lulu. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

August is Pet Dental Health Month and as part of Petitude’s advocacy on pet health and responsible pet ownership, we would like to encourage everyone to schedule a dental checkup for your pet to ensure the best dental health possible.

Dental disease is probably one of the most common health problems diagnosed amongst our domestic pets today. This can result in tooth decay, infected and bleeding gums and in more serious cases, can cause problems involving the heart and kidneys.

In general, dental disease can be prevented with regular dental checkups and proper diet. These should be part of your pet’s dental health plan. Appropriate feeding and early detection can prevent or delay the development of any dental disease.

Good news is, we received an invitation from RSPCA Victoria, a non-government community based animal welfare charity, inviting Petitude customers, subscribers and web visitors to take advantage of their FREE pet dental checks throughout this month of August. RSPCA Veterinary Clinics at Burwood East and Peninsula are giving free nurse dental checks. This is a great opportunity to make sure that your pet’s dental health is A-OK!

For more information or to schedule your pet’s dental checkup, please call:
RSPCA Burwood East Vet Clinic: (03) 9224 2222
RSPCA Peninsula Vet Clinic: (03) 5978 6722

Please spread the good news and share the link!

Cheers,
The Petitude Team

She is a small Shih Tzu rescued from the pound by Dog Rescue Newcastle and she needed immediate surgery to repair the kneecaps on both of her back legs. The goal was to help Dog Rescue Newcastle raise $1000 for Elly’s operation.

Three days after launching the newsletter, we received an email from Dog Rescue Newcastle saying that they had already received a total of $1,257 from 45 kind-hearted individuals from all over Australia and as far away as Belgium and Brazil who had sent donations ranging from $2 to $100 each to help for Elly’s veterinary care. And on the 16th of this month, the 4ELLY coupon code we created also generated total sales of $332.19 (courtesy of eight generous Petitude customers) and 15% of which was also sent for Elly’s operation. Dog Rescue Newcastle will use the additional funds to pay for Elly’s desexing, vaccination, and post-operative vet visits.

Elly’s bandage was removed on the 4th of this month then later that day Elly remove all her stitches! Today, Terri sent us another update about Elly:

Elly is going well. I was just speaking to her foster carer Geraldine who was telling me the latest news. Elly still runs away and cowers when Geraldine approaches, but if Elly is in her bed she lifts her leg and lets Geraldine rub her tummy. She loves her food and eats anything. Geraldine has learned that Elly is very well housetrained — now that Geraldine understands her signals. Elly comes up to Geraldine when she needs to be let out and will always prefer to go outside to do her business whenever possible.

Elly has had another vet check and the vet says that the knee which was repaired is good and she should start using it. Elly walks on it, but when she runs she picks it up. The vet didn’t examine her other knee at the last visit so she’ll need to go back and have it checked, and schedule surgery if she still thinks it’s necessary. Geraldine says she uses the other leg just fine and doesn’t seem to be in any pain and she is off pain medication.

We at Petitude would like to thank everyone for helping Elly. Thank you very much!

We would like to thank all of you for supporting our Shop for Cause advocacy campaign. The campaign has been running for five months now and we are very happy to inform you that we have already remitted $180.49 to Dog Rescue Newcastle, our partner dog rescue organisation.

We are also happy to announce that Tiny, a 4 year-old Blue Heeler rescued from the pound by Dog Rescue Newcastle has just found a new home. Tiny is one of the several pets we featured in our newsletters that found a loving family through this advocacy.

This campaign is still ongoing and will run until the end of this year, so we are encouraging everyone to participate. We believe that there’s still so much more that we can contribute for this cause and there are more animals that we can save through our collective effort.

You can do your share by doing any of the following:
1. SHOP — When you do your shopping at www.petitude.com.au and use the coupon code SHOP4ACAUSE, 15% of the sales will go to Dog Rescue Newcastle, a non-profit organisation that provides temporary shelter and needed health care for rescued dogs.
2. ADOPT – Subscribe to our newsletter or check out our Adopt Me blog section to view our featured furry pals who are looking for a loving family and a permanent home.
3. SPREAD THE WORD — Forward our newsletter to your family and friends, bookmark or retweet our pet adoption blog articles.

Again, thank you very much for your continued support!

The Petitude Team
